To help you make notations of problem areas and to chart
the history of your movie screen we offer a report that you can print from
this web site. Click on the ink below and a new window will open.
From your browser's print button print the number of copies you need.
To find information about your screen go behind it and
take a look at the bottom left or right of the screen. There you can find
a tag detailing the manufacturer, the screen size, and the type of screen.
Not all screens have their tags, however. You can make a
rough estimate of the screen's size by taking it's length and dividing by
two to get the height. That is if it's wider than it is tall as is
the case with most screens. Without getting technical, if the screen has
side moveable masking then it will be roughly a 1:2 ratio of height to
length. This is a rough way to estimate and should not be a method to use
to get measurements to replace a screen. Depending on the focal length of
the projector and many other factors the height to length ratio is never
exactly a 1:2 ratio, but this method is good to get close to what the
screen size actually is in the majority of cases. Remember, this
method will not work if it appears to the naked eye that your screen is as
high as it is long, which is the case when there is top and bottom
moveable masking.
Unless a screen is for rear projection it will fall into
one of three general classifications: matte white, high gain, and silver.
Without a screen tag you will need to take your flashlight to the screen
to identify it.
